ATEN Technology today announced four new models to its Slideaway LCD KVM series with two models featuring biometric access security.

The new CL57 series offers a space-saving, streamlined approach to KVM switch technology by integrating a high-resolution LCD monitor (resolution of up to 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz), a full keyboard and a touchpad in a 1U rack-mountable sliding housing.

A single eight- or 16-port switch can control up to eight or 16 computers, and provide access to multiple computers from a single PS/2 or USB keyboard, mouse, and video.

For added security, the built-in fingerprint reader can be used as an alternate login method to controlling access to the LCD KVM, and all devices under its command. For this feature, an administrator and up to four user accounts can use any one of the recorded fingerprints to log in.

John Owen, director of sales, ATEN Technology, said the fingerprint reader feature in the new CL57 series with biometric security functionality adds security and user-friendliness to the server management. He adds the administrator can use either the recorded fingerprint or a password to access the KVM switch, and the fingerprint reader is an alternative, and is both more convenient and secure than a password.

He adds applications for biometric technology are wide-ranging, including use in securing public and private buildings, in patient services within the healthcare industry, as well as the financial sector.
